If you set up an automatic backup on a schedule but it didn't run, you're not doing anything wrong. This is almost always the phone, not your setup.
Why This Happens
To save battery, Android phone makers aggressively shut down background tasks. Xiaomi, Huawei, Samsung, and many others each ship their own "battery optimizer" or app-killer, and they decide when a scheduled job is allowed to wake up.
The frustrating part: even when you allow the app to run in the background, some devices still block scheduled work anyway. There's no single setting we can point you to that guarantees it, because every phone brand handles it differently — and it's out of the app's hands once your phone decides to sleep the task.
A Partial Step: Battery Settings
It's worth trying, though it doesn't always stick. In your phone's Settings, find the battery or app settings for MobileBiz Pro and allow it to run in the background (sometimes called "no restrictions", "allow background activity", or "don't optimize"). On some phones this is enough to let scheduled backups through. On others, they'll still get blocked — which is why the fix below matters more.
The Reliable Fix: Back Up When You Close the App
Instead of relying on a schedule your phone can kill, turn on the setting that backs up every time you leave the app. There's no background job to sleep — the backup runs at the moment you exit, right when your latest changes are freshest.
To turn it on:
- Open the side menu and tap Settings.
- Under Data & backup, tap Backup & restore.
- Connect a destination (Dropbox or Google Drive) if you haven't already.
- Tap the backup status bar at the top to open Backup Settings.
- Turn on Back up when I close the app ("Saves your latest changes each time you exit").
This is included with Plus. See the Plus subscription page for what's included. You can keep using manual and scheduled Dropbox backups for free — this just adds the reliable, schedule-free option.
Check When Your Last Backup Actually Ran
Not sure whether backups are getting through? The same Backup Settings screen shows a Backup history section with your Last backup time, the Status (Success or Failed), and the backup size. The status bar on the Backup & Restore screen also shows Last and Next at a glance — a quick way to confirm things are working.
Good to Know
- "Back up when I close the app" doesn't replace your cloud connection — it still uploads to the Dropbox or Google Drive account you connected.
- Leaving a scheduled backup turned on as well is fine. Think of it as a best-effort backup, with backup-on-exit as the one you can count on.
- Battery settings live in your phone's own Settings app, not in MobileBiz Pro, so the exact wording varies by phone brand and model.
